Students who choose the Finance program will write the Canadian Securities Course examination while they are students at BCIT. Financial managers should be creative thinkers and problem-solvers, applying their analytical skills to business. We encourage you to apply for one of two areas: Controllers & Tax or Corporate Treasury & Bank Finance. Finance is an applied branch of economics that studies the ways in which individuals, business entities, and other organizations allocate resources over time and make decisions in the presence of uncertainty.
Bank Finance teams assist in analyzing liquidity risks of new lending structures, execute funding strategy by raising capital in partnership with the Securities Division, source new deposit channels, and develop and implement risk and pricing models. The specialization in Corporate Finance provides you with insights, perspectives, practical knowhow and a skill set that is especially relevant for careers in corporate finance within non-financial firms, in investment or commercial banking, in private equity and venture capital, or in management consulting.
Other important finance topics which will probably be taught include accounting, mathematical methods, macro and microeconomics and information technology. Optional areas of business application may explore labour markets, government intervention and environmental regulation. Our students have access to a variety of courses reflecting the latest research findings and market practices.
